It is human nature to take advantage of a bargain, should one be available and at least one Labour MP has been ridiculed for taking advantage of Thatcher's right to buy scheme, but no one is ridiculing Thatcher's policy of selling off Council housing stock at a loss to people who have been renting. Social (rented) housing was a lifeline to poorer families who couldn't afford or get a mortgage plus it was a steady income for cash strapped Councils. Now all the social housing has ended up in the hands of greedy Pro Tory financiers, who charge a fortune to poorer families and the DWP for rent, while soaking up huge profits. Meanwhile Councils who have long since spent the pittance that Thatcher gave them for their social housing stock have no rental income and are all going bust one by one. Thanks a lot Thatcher!
